Last week, our AustraCold team came together to recognise R U OK? Day.
While R U OK? Day gives us an important reminder to check in with one another, the message behind it goes well beyond one day.
Mental health touches more people, families and workplaces than we sometimes realise. Today, we recognise those who have faced their own challenges, those who are still working through them, and the family, friends, colleagues and organisations who provide support along the way.
Days like this also remind us of the importance of simply taking a breather, stepping away from the pressures of our day-to-day work, spending some time together, having a conversation and genuinely asking someone, “Are you OK?”
At AustraCold, this connects closely with our SECRET to Success values. In particular, Respect is about more than how we work together, it is about looking out for one another, listening without judgement and recognising that everyone may be carrying something we cannot see.
Our values shouldn’t just be words on a wall. They should be reflected in how we treat each other every day.
A conversation can make a difference. A little understanding can make a difference – and sometimes simply being there can make the biggest difference of all.
Thank you to our team for taking the time to come together, and to the many organisations and people in our community who continue to raise awareness and provide support around mental health.
Ask. Listen. Support. And look out for one another – not just on R U OK? Day, but every day.
